Compass East’s Dan McCarthy Makes Nashville Business Journal 40 Under 40 List

Nashville Business Journal released its 40 Under 40 list for 2024, and Compass East’s Dan McCarthy was named among other young professionals who are advancing their companies, careers, and communities. McCarthy is Cofounder and President of Compass East and CFO of Acklen Avenue Software.

Each year’s list includes a diverse group of executives, innovators, and entrepreneurs under the age of 40 who are collectively shaping Music City’s future. According to NBJ, notable honorees in 2024 include “a voiceover artist, a volunteer who donated time to an AIDS orphanage in Botswana, a blood donor who has hit the 4-gallon mark, and more.”

“I am deeply honored to be listed among such an inspiring group of young professionals and proud to be part of the vibrant Nashville business community,” said McCarthy, who moved to Nashville in 2011, when his brother Colin was drafted by the Tennessee Titans. McCarthy has since made a name for himself as a business leader in the Nashville area.

Prior to co-founding Compass East, McCarthy was an internal auditor with Health Management Associates, Inc. (HMA), a leader in the hospital management industry that was later acquired by Community Health Systems (CHS). He is a former treasurer and board member of The Phoenix Club of Nashville, a nonprofit dedicated to benefiting disadvantaged youth in Middle Tennessee.

McCarthy, who became President of Compass East in 2019, has driven the company to significant growth in recent years. He has been responsible for every aspect of the business, from HR to marketing to IT. McCarthy has developed and implemented initiatives across the company, including refining Compass East’s vision and values and repositioning the firm to a more targeted market. He has also helped the company optimize its operations internally while looking ahead to broader trends and technology that will impact the accounting field.

Through it all, Dan remains connected to his ability to have a positive impact on the company’s clients. “As an internal auditor, I saw first-hand how businesses operate and discovered an immense desire to impact change on current and future business growth. I built Compass East to do just that: contribute directly to the growth and success of business leaders in Tennessee and across the country,” said McCarthy. “I’m extremely fortunate that I have the opportunity every day to live our company mission: building businesses with people we admire.”
